Hip-hop purists for decades have considered Jean Grae (real name Tsidi lbrahim) as one of the most underrated MCs the genre has to offer, male or female. The Cape Town, South Africa born, New York transplant began her rap career under mid-90s outlet Natural Resources. Using the alias “What? What?,” she became the group’s standout thanks to rhymes blending blunt wit and an extremely technical delivery. Eventually going solo, Greasy would find inspiration in one particular X-Men superhero for her name change before dropping her debut LP Attack of the Attacking Things in 2002. Following a slew of sequel projects, Jean Grae would drop her classic legendary collaborative album with North Carolina producer and former Little Brother member 9th Wonder, appropriately titled Jeanius. One of the most respected lyricists the game has to offer, working with mainstays from The Roots and Talib Kweli to Pharoahe Monch.
